Redbridge’s mental health trust is in the running to win two national healthcare awards.

The North East London Foundation Trust, based in Goodmayes Hospital, is hoping to scoop the awards in two categories - “Healthcare IT” and “Patient Safety.”

The Health Business Awards recognise the contributions of organisations and individuals working inside and alongside the NHS across 19 categories, focusing on facilities, specialism and innovation.

The former award nomination, sponsored by tech company Fujitsu, recognises NELFT’s MyMind app, aimed at improving adolescent mental health care.

The app directs users to approved advice and support and enables them to manage their recovery journey with appointment reminders and access to care plans, and has video messaging technology to encourage communication with their doctors.

Sam Illaiee, co-founder of MyMind, said: “The team is ecstatic at this award nomination, as this is a business awards ceremony - and improved business delivery is a by-product of great and safe patient experience and frugal use of clinician time.

“Simply put, it is best in class digital delivery of child mental healthcare. Cutting-edge tech with user experience based co-design.”

The Patient Safety award nomination recognises the trust’s “Significant 7 Training Package’ - created in collaboration with the Barking, Havering and Redbridge Clinical Commissioning Group - an early warning tool and training package for care home staff.

The package supports nurses in identifying the needs of the care home residents through interactive training.

Nurse Consultant Geraldine Rodgers said: “We were genuinely surprised and delighted to be nominated for the Patient Safety Award.

Dr Sarah Jarvis, The One Show’s resident GP, present’s this year’s award ceremony.

Both innovations have already picked up awards this year.

MyMind scooped up the awards in the Technology and Data in Nursing category of the Nursing Times Awards and for digital innovation at the 2017 NHS Digital Pioneer Awards.

Significant 7 came top in the Excellence in Care for Older People category of the Cavell Nurses Trust awards and Patient Safety in Community category of the national Patient Safety awards in July.

The winners are announced on December 14 at the Grange Hotel in St Paul’s.
