An Olympic high jumper set the bar high at a health trust sports day on Wednesday.

Dalton Grant, who competed in the 1988 Olympics in South Korea, joined more than 300 staff from the North East London NHS Foundation Trust (NELFT) at Goodmayes Hospital, in Barley Lane, Goodmayes.

British number one badminton player Elizabeth Cann also joined in sports ranging from a five-a-side football tournament and rounders, to belly dancing and Zumba.

Mr Grant, who was a captain of Team GB in the 2012 Olympics after helping London win the bid, said he was “delighted” to take part.

He added: “It is a fantastic way to promote sport and overall wellbeing.

“Sport has been fantastic for me. When you’re physically fit it helps your overall wellbeing.”

Trust chiefs and councillors from Redbridge, Havering, Waltham Forest and Barking and Dagenham also got involved.

NELFT chairman Jane Atkinson said she was “committed” to promoting exercise to help mental and physical health.
