Hundreds of residents in flats in Chadwell Heath have suffered nearly three days without running water.

The supply stopped in Glandford Way around 11pm on Friday and was partially restored at 2pm yesterday.

Residents were left without water to shower, flush toilets or do washing and only limited bottled drinking water was provided.

Swaffham Court resident Lee Humphreys said “a huge number of families” were affected, including some with young babies.

He added: “The residents are livid – and the level of support from both companies, especially the communication is abysmal.

“Why have they waited until Monday afternoon to get the water supply working again when it cut off at 11pm on Friday night?”

Mr Humphreys said the water this morning was still not running at a normal pressure from taps.

An Essex and Suffolk Water spokesman said the problem “wasn’t an issue” with their mains network.

Technicians found the mains flowing well on Friday evening.

The spokesman added: ““We are responsible for the mains and after that it’s the management.

“Provided assistance to East Thames Homes on Saturday and Sunday to lay a standpipe.”

But East Thames Homes, which owns one affected block, said the problem was being managed by property firm Countrywide “on behalf of a number of landlords”.

A spokesman said the fault was caused by a failed water pump.

He added: “We are working closely with Countrywide to ensure the problem is resolved quickly and to provide a temporary water supply in the interim.”

Countrywide said all pumps will be reconnected “as soon as possible” so full water pressure can be restored to all residents.
