Homes in Chadwell Heath have been left without water on what is predicted to be the hottest day of the year.

The area affected by the outage surrounds Grove Road and includes Sherman Gardens and Madeleine Close.

A 39-year-old resident of Madeleine Close, woke up this morning to find her taps were not working. She predicted that up to 600 flats could be without access to water.

She said: “It’s stressful. It’s the hottest day of the year we cannot do anything without water.

“My daughter had to go to school this morning without brushing her teeth, lots of people in this block have babies and young children.”

Temperatures in Chadwell Heath are predicted to reach a sweltering 30C today.

She said: “I’m on crutches and cannot go down the road to buy water- it’s very frustrating.”

Technicians from Essex & Suffolk Water visited the site this morning but were unable to find the cause of the outage.

A spokesman for the company said: “Technicians have taken readings from the water mains in the immediate area – these all showed normal operating pressures.

“Initially, we thought there might have been a leak on our water mains, but monitoring by the technicians has found that not to be the case.

“We would advise customers with no water supply to contact their managing agents.”

The estate is managed by Chamonix Estates. A spokesman for the company said investigations were ongoing but it did not know the cause of the water outage.
