A hi-tech breast care centre has opened at King George Hospital – treating its first patient this week.

Kathleen Walker, now 66, has undergone eight operations since she was 40 to treat breast cysts and now attends the service for monitoring.

She said: “I previously used the Victoria Centre mobile unit, and before that the service at Harold Wood. The new Elm Breast Care Centre is lovely, bright and clean.”

Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust (BHRUT) has invested £500,000 in the centre, designed by patients to provide calm environment.
