Children aged between six and 11 can take part in free gymnastics and dance classes next academic year as part of a bid to tackle obesity.

The End Child Poverty campaign reported last year on extreme poverty in the Clementswood and Loxford wards of Ilford South constituency, linked to childhood obesity.

As a result, the Redbridge Carnival Association successfully applied to Capital FM’s Help a Capital Child fund for a grant to run its Carnival Capers programme.

Gymnastics, Bollywood and street dancing classes will run over a 20-week period, along with steel pan lessons, at Clementswood Community Centre, Connaught Road, Ilford and Winston Way Primary School, Winston Way, Ilford.
