Winifred Goodbody marked the birthday with friends at Birchwood Residential Care Home in Clayhall Avenue, Clayhall.

Born during the Edwardian era in 1906, Winnie grew up in Seven Kings through the First World War, glamorous 20s, and the Great Depression.

She worked throughout her life, including during the Second World War, and was a shorthand typist in the civil service when she retired.

Winnie said she has “no idea” how she has lived to such an incredible age.

“I suppose I could put it down to good, clean living – I’ve never had a drink, never had a cigarette and never married and have always been completely happy and content living my life that way.”
