Assistant head teacher Judith Jackson spoke of the school’s pride over all of its students at the Petitts Lane school.

The school said 81 per cent of students had achieved a grade “above their expected level of progress” compared to the average national figure of 70pc.

Miss Jackson said: “We are very proud of all our students. It is wonderful for both students and staff who put in so much work to be able to share in their success together on results day.

“We wish all our Year 11s particularly the best of luck as they begin the next stages of education, work and training.”

Individual efforts included exceptional performances by some younger students and high tallies of the top grades by Year 11s.

Sophie Marston and Braian Strak, both in Year 9, gained an A in GCSE music and an A* in Polish respectively.

Fellow Year 9 Thomas Bouverie also received a pass in AS-level Russian.

In Year 11, Luke Bentley gained 6A*s and 1A.

Kelsey Smith – who had already gained A* in maths last year – received an additional A in maths, and another 4A*s and 4As.

Among the school’s top attaining boys were Toby Mascall, with 6A*s and 2As, and Conor Etherden, with 6A*s and 3As.

Both also attained additional maths.

The top attaining girls included Megan Olley with 7A*s and 2As and Mennan Sailh with 6A*s and 4As, as well as additional maths.
