A group of hospice workers raised nearly £2,000 for children with life-limiting illnesses by tackling a race on Sunday.
The “Haven House Hunnies” made £1,700 for Haven House Children’s Hospice after taking part in the British 10k, but, with donations still coming in, they hope to increase their total to £3,835 - enough to provide 24 hours of care and fun for sick youngsters.
Sarah Spackman, HR director for the Woodford Green hospice, said: “I was so pleased I took up the challenge and knowing that I was helping to raise vital funds for Haven House really spurred me on to the finish line.”
Teena Antoniou, a marketing executive, added: “It was hard at times, but knowing the amazing children and families that we look after personally was a great incentive to keep running.”
The race saw the women run past iconic landmarks including Big Ben, St Paul’s Cathedral and Nelson’s Column.
Mike Palfreman, chief executive of Haven House, said: “I think it says so much about the commitment of our staff that they take on these enormous challenges outside of work and continue to fundraise for Haven House and the life-limited children and families we support.”
