There are not many organisations that can claim to be as community minded as the scouts.
In recent months, the 1st Hainault Scout Group has been regularly attending the Tesco superstore in Cranbrook Road, Barkingside to help raise money for a new minibus.
In two bag packing sessions in March and April, the group raised an astonishing £2925.21 for the fund, with the work also going towards the youngsters’ fundraising and community impact badges.
Jared Keizner, Wawbeck young leader, said: “My kids really enjoyed themselves and all the children packed bags really well.
“It was nice to see the smiles on the children’s faces and especially nice to see the children working and interacting with other members of the community.
“Customers were extremely impressed with how polite all of our children were.”
“Our aim this year is to raise £20,000 for the minibus.
“Throughout the year, I will be overseeing and running multiple fundraising events such as bingo nights, quiz nights and more bag packing events.
“Having a minibus will benefit over 120 youth members within our group as well as being available to use by over 1,000 young people who are members of other groups in our district.”
