Popular children’s author and poet Michael Rosen entertained children around the borough when he visited a school to talk about his work.
The former poet laureate gave a video conference and judged a poetry slam competition during his visit to Fairlop Primary School in Colvin Gardens, Hainault which was beamed to nine other schools around Redbridge.
A group from each school acted out one of the author’s poems with pupils from Mayespark Primary School being awarded first place for their version of Road.
Year 5 pupils from Fairlop Primary School secured a respectable second place.
Mr Rosen, who was poet laureate from 2007 to 2009, then held a question and answer session.
Head teacher Gail Brannan said: “He was very enthusiastic and said a lot of his inspiration came from day dreaming.
“The children really enjoyed meeting him. I think he has definitely inspired a couple of them to follow his footsteps.”
