A couple whose great-grandson benefits from care at Woodford Green’s Haven House Hospice have won 1,500 on the charity’s lottery.

Margaret and Brian Wisker, from Chingford, scooped the top prize and straight away gave 100 back to the hospice which helps children with life-limiting conditions.

They decided to support the charity’s lottery because their two-year-old great-grandson Jaydem, from Leyton, uses its day care and respite services.

Mrs Wisker said: “We play the lottery because Haven House does so much to help Jaydem but we never expected to win.

“We are delighted with our windfall, it will help to make this Christmas extra special.

“But more than that, we know that by supporting the lottery, we will be helping local families like us, who have a seriously ill child.”

Chief executive Mike Palfreman said: “We couldn’t be happier that Jaydem’s great-grandparents have won the top prize.

“We know that in the current economic climate, people may not have the extra funds to regularly donate to the hospice, so the lottery is an ideal solution, as it means a constant revenue stream us and the chance for players to win something back.”
