The deadline for applications for £300,000 of funding which can be spent on anything from festivals to creating a new website is on Sunday.
Any group club or organisation operating in Redbridge is eligible to apply for the funding which seeks to promote Olympic values and a lasting legacy.
The Olympic Legacy Fund was raised through allowing the temporary hotel Snoozebox to be sited in Hainault Forest Country Park, Forest Road, Hainault during the Games.
Jane Leighton, from the culture team at Vision who are running and administering the fund on behalf of Redbridge Council, said groups should be ambitious about what they want to apply for.
She said: “The Olympic values are supported by lots of local groups anyway so it’s very easy for them. We want to encourage projects that match those objectives and it’s about supporting what’s there already and giving a bit more money towards new projects.”
Grants of anything between £1,000 and £15,000 can be awarded and anyone thinking of applying is encouraged to contact Vision to get help and advice with the process.
The fund is intended to provide a legacy to the Olympic and Paralympic Games and promotes values such as friendship, inspiration, equality, courage and determination.
Ms Leighton said: “There has to be a demonstrated need. If you are looking to develop a website or a book or something that’s a one off project we can help with that.”
There are four categories under which applications can be made including sustainability which improves the environment, and volunteering. The other two categories are heritage and sport.
“It’s to develop a range of facilities and initiatives for the community’s development,” Ms Leighton added. “It could be a festival or a small building development which is good for match funding.”
There are two funding application rounds with this round closing on Sunday. The second round will open on September 9.
