A campaigner battling to keep services at King George Hospital says more than 1,000 petition signatures have been collected.
Helen Zammett, from Wanstead, who is co-ordinating the drawing up and distribution of the petitions, collected more than 400 signatures in Ilford.
Signatures, which will be presented in Parliament, must be collected by May 31. The petition calls for a reversal of plans to close the A&E and labour ward at King George Hospital, Barley Lane, Goodmayes. It can be signed at the Recorder offices in Media House, High Road, Ilford; Superdrug, High Road, Ilford; Costa Coffee, Cranbrook Road, Ilford, and at Lamar Cafe in The Exchange Ilford.
Mrs Zammett said people are keen to know how to contact the independent reconfiguration panel to give their opinions.
n The panel, has until July 22 to present its findings to Secretary of State for Health, Andrew Lansley. People can contact the panel by emailing info@irpanel.org.uk.
