Councillor Kam Rai is bringing out his inner animal to compete in the Spartan Beast Race on Saturday.

Together with 15 other residents, the Goodmayes representative will be taking on a gruelling 16 mile race which includes 35 tough obstacles through a muddy forest.

“We workout together and decided to enter the race and at the same time try and raise some money for charity,” he said.

“We’ve been whipped into shape by the super fit Binny Thiara, @bintensity on instagram, who is also running, and we train in Hainault Forest Country Park every Sunday.

All money raised by the team will be donated to Macmillan Cancer Support.

They chose this charity after team member Pauline Rendell suggested that all the group knew someone that was affected by the disease.

“We have raised more than £5,000 so far, but we would like to raise more as every penny counts,” added Councillor Rai
