Mushrooms, steak, leek or chicken? A pub has launched a competition for residents to design the pie they would like to see on the menu.

The Rose & Crown, Mill Lane, Woodford Green, is offering £500 to the best pie recipe and the title of “Pastriots”, while the two runners up will each receive a £100 prize.

Pie-lovers and connoisseurs are invited to submit their creations online including details of their perfect pastry, meat, vegetable and sauce combination.

General manager at the Rose & Crown Nigel Shaw said: “We decided to mark the launch of our Best of British festival by launching a competition to find a new twist on one of Britain’s best dishes, the humble pie.

“We are hoping to find pies that are both creative and delicious in equal measure; whether it’s an old favourite, a personal speciality or a classic pie with a modern twist. We can’t wait to see what the Woodford Green community come up with.”

The competition ends on Thursday. To enter the pie design competition visit the Rose & Crown’s Facebook page on
