The generosity of parents whose 10-year-old son died of a brain tumour has meant a Woodford Green children’s hospice has been able to hire a bereavement sister.
Braden Webster died in 1995 and his family has since raised more than £60,000 which they have donated to Haven House in High Road, Woodford Green.
His parents Sue and Andy held lots of fundraising events around Redbridge and Sue volunteered at the hospice, now in its tenth year, when it was being set up.
Having recently seen Haven House on ITV1’s Daybreak programme, the couple were impressed by what had been achieved at the hospice in the intervening years and decided to donate funds from their Braden Webster Memorial Charity.
Sue said: “Seeing it on TV made me realise how vital the hospice is to the local community.
“I want to thank everyone in Redbridge and the surrounding area who helped us to raise this fabulous sum and for them to know that all these years later, their support is doing such good.”
Noreen Stephens from Highams Park, is experienced in paediatric palliative care at the hospice and has signed up for a two-year contract.
