There were tears, screams, calls from across the Atlantic and lots of jumping at King Solomon High School when students opened their results earlier today.
Despite the rain, the corridors were soon packed to the brim with students desperate to open their GCSE results at the school in Forest Road, Barkingside.
Inside there was an explosion of excitement, and it even proved too much for some students, with Naomi Penn shrieking and breaking into tears with shock after seeing she had achieved six A*s, five As and one B.
She said: “I was not expecting to do well at all, that’s why I am so shocked but I am very, very happy.”
Across the board there were a lot of high grades, but after the emotion and frenzy began to calm down, many students were itching to get home and celebrate with their family and friends.
One student in particular, Manahil Afseh, who received five A*s, seven As and one B, had already received phone calls from relatives in America and had lots of family members eagerly waiting outside.
She said: “I am over the moon with my results and my family are ecstatic, I can’t wait to go and celebrate.”
However for one student the celebrations are going to have to be put on hold.
Max Wynne, who achieved seven A*s and six As, picked up his results during his lunch break and was heading straight back to work afterwards, but said he was hoping to celebrate later and looked forward to starting sixth form in September.
While most of the students have opted to stay at King Solomon for sixth form, there are a few pupils that will be leaving their peers.
A sad but excited Zachary Cohen, who was awarded nine A*s and four As, will be attending a new sixth form in north London.
And Leone Aaronson, who received four As, three Cs and one D, has decided to leave school and embark on a hairdressing career and is soon to start work in a full-time trainee role.
She said: “My results are amazing, I am just so happy, it is the best thing ever, and I am so proud and pleased with myself.”
Soon after, the students began to spill out on to the pavement to head home, but they were all still smiling and are pleased it is all over, including Hannah Rosenberg, who was awarded one A, six Bs and four Cs, and Joel Davis who received nine A*s and four As.
Departing headteacher Spencer Lewis said of the results: “I am very, very happy. Thirty per cent of grades were A/A*, with 12pc of the year group getting 10 or more As/A*s.
“They all worked very hard during the exams, I am really pleased that it paid off. I am also very interested to see how the other schools in the borough got on in their results this morning.”
