Picking up your exam results is one of the most nerve-wracking experiences even for the coolest of teenagers.

For 16-year-old Bibire Baykeens the tension was so much that she could not face eating her breakfast and sang to herself to try and stay calm.

She was one of the numerous students at Mayfield High School, Pedley Road, Goodmayes picking up her GCSE results this morning. For Bibire at least there was nothing to worry about scooping an incredible seven A*s and three As meaning she is one step closer to her ambition of studying law.

Bibire said: “I thought I would vomit when I woke up. I started singing lots of worship songs to make me calm and not worry. It was a long journey.”

She says that whatever she had got in her exams it would not have stopped her from aiming for her ambition.

“It should not stop any student doing what they want to do. I was really nervous but I’m really happy now,” Bibire added.

Also picking up her results this morning was 16-year-old Hajera Begum who got a whopping ten A*s, two As and even took an As-level a year early.

She said: “Seeing on the news that the grade boundaries have changed and they are really harsh now made me nervous but now I’m really happy.”

The headteacher said he had mixed feelings about the government changes stopping students being able to leave at 16 and go straight into work.

Andy Rehling said: “As long as there’re apprenticeships for them to go in it’s ok, but there need to be way more of them. On balance it’s good that they are not leaving at 16 and are getting a chance of a better themselves.”
