GCSEs: Sea of happy faces as Oaks Park High students celebrate

Students and staff members were overwhelmed with the results across the year group, and pleased that all the long hours of revision had finally paid off.

As the students poured in to the school in Oaks Lane, Newbury Park, and ripped open the brown envelopes, many students were excited to see they had achieved high grades in a lot of their subjects,

Iryna Vasylenko and Jade McDonnell managed to picked up 12 A*s between them.

However one student, Prothoma Masudur, excelled all expectations when she discovered she had been awarded 10 A*s, three As and one B.

She said: “I am so happy and really excited about the results, I am also so overwhelmed, but I am slightly disappointed about the B in Maths.

“I revised really hard and just kept reading things over and over again, and it worked.

“I am going to go to sixth form in September to study chemistry, biology, history and English or media. But for now I am looking forward to going home and telling my parents how I have done.”

The sports hall and corridors were packed full of students congratulating each other and sharing their success, but after an exhausting morning the next stage for them is to head home to tell their parents about their results.

Minoli De Silva was awarded five A*s and six As and is going home to celebrate.

Nearly everyone had turned up this morning to collect their results in person – Charanjit Raju even travelled for three hours from Birmingham so he could collect his results beside his peers.

Gaining two A*s, three As, two Bs and two Cs, he said: “I did much better than I thought I would do,

“I am just so pleased and I am looking forward to celebrating with all the family after the drive back to Birmingham, the drive was worth it this morning though.”

Most of the students are planning to stay on at the Oaks Park sixth form to study for their A-level qualifications.

More immediately, many students are looking forward to chilling out with their family and friends after a hectic day.

Aha Rana said: “I was really worried before I opened my results, I thought I was going to fail but I am very pleased with my seven A*s and other results and I am glad I can now relax.”

Overall the school is very happy with the results, and head of year Susan Kember said: “We are really proud of them all they have done exceptionally well, especially in the high grades, well done to all the students here.”
