Seven Kings High School pupils are celebrating their success with free ice cream after nearly a third received A*-A grades in their GCSEs.

After weeks of anxious waiting, nervous year 11 students arrived at the school, in Ley Street, to collect their examination results this morning (August 22). Deputy headteacher Tanya Coleman said: “We have a projected Progress 8 grade of +0.8.

“This will place Seven Kings as one of the top state community schools in the country.

“Well over a third of our grades are seven to nine or A* to A.” She added: “That’s impressive and a testament to our community.”

Yousuf Abbasi, 16, achieved the highest grades of any boy at the school scoring nines and eights across the board - save for a seven in geography.

He said: “It is a bit overwhelming. This really took me by surprise. I thought I had flopped physics. But I exceeded my own expectations.” After finishing sixthform he plans to do financial maths or chemical engineering at university. Fellow pupil Zaynab Mohammed, 16, got all 7 and 8 grades in her GCSEs.

She said: “I don’t know how to explain this! It doesn’t feel real - its surreal!” She is going to study english, sociology and history at A-level.

Ria Hoondle, 16, achieved the top grades in her year group with 8s and 9s across the board.

She said: “I feel really happy.”

“I didn’t expect to do that well at all.”

She hopes to go into dentistry or become an architect. Ice cream vendor Ray is delighted to be giving out free ice cream for the fifth year in a row at Seven Kings High School. He said: “Its so great to see people’s surprised faces when they realise it is free.”
