A faiths group held a networking event in a bid to inspire women in the fight against terrorism.
The Gants Hill branch of the Women’s Interfaith Network (WIN) got together at Indian restaurant Kanchans, Perth Road, Gants Hill, yesterday afternoon.
Police officers gave a talk about terrorism before members of the group, which was set up in the wake of 9/11, broke bread and discussed issues raised.
“It was very educational and interesting,” said branch chairwoman Dr Sudarshan Kapur. “We started because of all the hate going on and crime in society after 9/11 and the idea is to understand each other, our religions and cultures.
“Once you start understanding each other, you start respecting each other.”
She said women played a key role in the battle against extremism at home.
“The woman is the heart of the family,” she added.
