A Valentines High School student won an award at London Fashion Week for her “innovative and commercial” designs.

Inspired by “style leaders of Europe, past and present” Sezuthi Islam, 17, was presented with the Award for Silhouette at a lavish ceremony for young designers in Covent Garden.

A panel of professionals judged the 20 finalists’ work and praised Sezuthi’s hexagonal off-the-shoulder

“This whole experience is completely new for me, I’ve never experienced anything like this before,” said Sezuthi, who attends the school in Cranbrook Road, Gants Hill.

“I’m proud of myself for getting to this point and I’m so grateful to have had this opportunity.”

The event was organised by Fashion Awareness Direct (FAD).

Redbridge resident Gloria Massamba-Lutama, 20, a student at the Fashion Capital Academy, also made it to the final.

She said: “I’ve loved meeting all the industry specialists and the volunteers that have come to help us.”
