A teenager celebrated a double win, last week, after learning she had won another achievement award.

London Fire Brigade cadet, Sophie Marlow, 15, who attends Valentines School, Cranbrook Road, Gants Hill won a Jack Petchey award after being nominated by her peers.

Sophie was also named the monthly winner for March in the Recorder/Rotary Young Citizen Award scheme.

“I won as well as another cadets,” said Sophie.

“All the cadets participated in a vote based on who they thought was most improved.

“When the cadet leader announced the winners, I was very happy as well as shocked.

“I am a shy person at times so this was quite unexpected for me.”

Form tutor Lisa Shelley added the teen was “absolutely delighted” with her £40 Young Citizen’s prize money.

She said: “Her family are over the moon and extremely proud of her, as we all are at Valentines.”
