Archant

An apprentice hairdresser proved she was a cut above the rest when she won a competition with a swan-shaped hairstyle.

Kimberley Akaloo, from Uppercut in Cranbrook Road, Gants Hill, beat competition from 20 hairdressers at six salons to be crowned Trainee of the Year.

To fit the Blockbuster movies theme, she designed an outfit and style to fit film Black Swan, which explores a ballerina’s mental turmoil she rehearses for Swan Lake.

Kimberley said: “Black Swan is one of my favourite films so it was an easy choice when we were given the theme.

“The whole look came together when my cousin Hannah Warman agreed to be my model and I have been practising the hairstyle and make-up for months.”
