A group of Gants Hill accountants have raised nearly £7,000 with a charity run in memory of a colleague’s husband.

The eight runners from Prestons Chartered Accountants, in Cranbrook Road, ran the Bupa London 10,000 race in aid of Richard House Childen’s Hospice on May 27.

Taslima Jomeen, of Seven Kings, completed the race in memory of her husband Azad, who died of cancer last year aged just 45.

The couple had two sons aged five and seven.

Taslima, who finished the race in just 55 minutes, said her husband would be “delighted” they were supporting Richard House.

The team, named the Prestons Pen Pushers, received huge donations from the local community, including £1,153 from the Ilford Muslim Society and £750 from the Noor Ul Islam Trust in Leyton.

Runner Anver Patel, who fought through a nasty virus to finish the race, said the day was “fantastic”.

He added: “I was running one way and Mo Farah was running the other - I wanted to jump over the barrier.”

Running has become an annual tradition for the accountants, who are planning another race for the Newham hospice next year.
