Archant

Families wrapped up warm on Saturday to celebrate the annual Christmas lights switch-on in Wanstead.

The event at George Green saw residents turn out in force to mark the beginning of the festive season.

The popular celebration came under-threat after area committees – which funded the tree in previous years – were scrapped by Redbridge Council.

But a campaign to crowdfund the switch-on raised £3,000.

Matthew Scott (@matthewscottuk) wrote on Twitter: “This is incredible - whole community together for the switching on of their Christmas tree #Wanstead”
