The funeral for community champion Jim O’Halloran takes place today at the City of London Crematorium, Wanstead.
Jim, a founder member and former chairman of Goodmayes Residents’ Association (GRASS) died after a long battle with cancer. He lived in Green Lane, Goodmayes, and was commander at Barking Fire Station before retiring.
He was an active campaigner for the Goodmayes/Seven Kings area and a regular correspondent for the Recorder letters page. Back in March he was still campaigning for his area with a letter suggesting a planned new swimming pool might be built in Goodmayes Park extension.
GRASS chairman Keith Stanbury paid tribute to the community champ saying he had a “deep respect for Jim’s forthright, no-nonsense approach to the issues within Goodmayes Ward”.
The funeral at the cemetery in Aldersbrook Road, starts at noon after which Jim’s friends will indulge in a goodbye drink at O’Grady’s in High Road, Seven Kings.
