From warehouse to wonderful: Matalan Romford has been revamped just in time for May Bank Holiday

With bank holiday on the horizon, work chit-chat centres on vacay plans and outfit choices (after we have finished all our jobs - I promise editor Lindsay).
So when Matalan invited me for a shopping spree around their revamped store I might have actually whimpered out loud.
Armed with a trolley and running appropriate shoes - hey you don’t get an offer like this every day - I did a recce of the store, mentally navigating the best routes to flowing summer maxi dresses and homeware that would make you Insta page pop.
Now before I arrived at the store on North Street, Romford, I was always a bit of a Matalan lover, but if truth be told it did feel like shopping in a giant warehouse, devoid of any sort of ambience.
But after a four week revamp the shop has transitioned into a one-stop destination shop, with each collection housed on its own little island between a sea of wide aisles (great for pram pushers) and thematic layouts.
One of the biggest changes is the evolution and growth of the homeware section, which has moved to the left-hand side of the shop.
From luscious throws to lifelike plants that would make even the dullest livingroom welcoming, it is hard not to lose yourself picturing your whole home done up and decked out with on-trend trinkets.
Aisle after aisle is bejewelled with rainbow colour palettes of goods that would satisfy customers with even the most severe perfectionist personality traits.
Another surprise is the workmen’s section with nail hard boots, tops and trousers.
All the lovely labourers in your life can now kit themselves out in construction grade clothing complete with a pocket-pleasing price tags. Office workers can also pick up a fitted suit for £80.
Families can take advantage of the all year round school shop and use the new nursing room to take care of their little ones.
If that doesn’t get the mums and dads going then the cute selection of suitcases will in the holiday shop.
They come in a variety of sizes (Goldilocks would approve) and there is even a beautifully printed diddy one for children - which may help them pull it for 10 minutes at the airport, rather than you carrying it after five.
I am not the only one raving about the redesigned shop and while getting carried away in the bag section I chat to store manager Paul Sturdy.
“It has been amazing and so far since the refit we have seen a really positive effect with customers praising the new look,” he said.
“We have also got a lot more products, with the new layout we are able to utilize the space and offer even more products to our customers”.Paul said the store had regular promotions, as well as sale periods and at the moment customer can win £100 of vouchers for taking part in an online survey.
Getting back to my May Bank Holiday outfit mission I peruse, the prints and ruffled hems of the summer dresses and bold blouses.
Over a particularly pretty little tea dress, I bumped into Lifestyle blogger, Katy English of the littlemisskaty.co.uk.
“This store is huge,” she gushed.
“I love how big it is and how it is laid out.
“The products are so cheap and the quality is really good - you can get everything here – Matalan is definitely a staple of the British shopping scene.”
Having mapped out my route, I head to the start line to begin my dash.
I weave the trolley around the store and load it up with a gorgeous pink maxi dress, a mustard jacket, baby blue bag, silver pendant and floral tops.
Jeans have never been my friend, so the triumph of the trip was finding a pair that contained my thighs without looking like the worst thing ever - I actually fulfilled a lifelong ambition on the quest for well fitting trousers - go me.
The revamped store is definitely an enhanced shopping experience with more products, better ambience and eye-pleasing displays.
