A situation most parents fear is being tackled with the launch of a free piece of clothing designed to help save babies’ lives.

Parents can lay their hands on a babygrow designed to help them perform cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) if their baby stops breathing.

Leading first aid charity St John Ambulance, together with Tesco Extra, High Road, Goodmayes, will launch the babygrow on Thursday.

A St John Ambulance spokeswoman said: “Only one in four mums and dads know what to do in this life or death situation.”

The babygrow features a helpful reminder, based on nursery rhyme Humpty Dumpty, of the five puffs and 30 pumps, followed by two puffs and 30 pumps parents need to give if their baby stops breathing.

Tesco’s brand director Michelle McEttrick, said: “We’re delighted to be supporting St John Ambulance in bringing this lifesaving lesson to parents - a perfect example of every little helps.”

The babygrows will be available at the store between 9.45am and 4.30pm.
