The former students from Mayfield Secondary School for Girls, in Christie Gardens, Chadwell Heath, met at Hardy’s Grill, in Maylandsea, Essex, on June 10 after Elaine Donovan, from Christchurch, and Julie Cooper, from Liverpool, decided to track down some of their old classmates.

“A fantastic evening was had by everyone, so much so that next years 40th year Anniversary is being organised for May 19 next year,” said Julie. “The evening was dominated by, ‘you haven’t changed a bit’ which made us think how old we must have looked at 16.

“We reminisced about the teachers and talked about how they terrified us and caught up on children, grandchildren and work.

“Two ladies are still married to their childhood sweethearts after 40 years.”

Mayfield Secondary School became Chadwell Heath Academy in 1979.
