Patients at King George Hospital will now be able to see a muslim chaplain.
Zakiyah Gangat has joined the trust behind the hospital in Barley Lane, Goodmayes, as the first representative of Islam on the multi-faith chaplaincy team.
She will be responsible for delivering pastoral care to patients at staff at King George Hospital as well as Queen’s Hospital, in Romford.
Zakiyah, originally from Canada, is an Islamic scholar, speaks four languages including Gujurati and Urdu, and has a degree in psychology and health.
Tim Coleman, chaplain for Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust, said: “We are really delighted to welcome Zakiyah to the team. She shows enthusiasm for the role and engages with warmth and concern.”
