Men and women were rescued from a fire in Chadwell Heath last night.
The London Fire Brigade responded to reports of a fire at 7.15pm at the Coopers Arms pub in High Road on Thursday, May 10.
Four fire engines arrived at the scene to tackle the flames.
Three men and three women were rescued from the building and treated for smoke inhalation by the London Ambulance Service.
A firefighter was also treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.
Mr Singh, 38 from Emerson Park in Hornchurch was driving back from Harvester when he and his family saw the flames.
He said: “There was loads of black smoke and there were people hanging out of the windows screaming for their lives.
“My concern was just to help the people that were in distress.
“There were so many members of the public that helped. A builders van pulled up and the driver got out a ladder to help the people escape.
“It just goes to show that when push comes to shove there’s still that bond in our community.”
