Firefighters have been called to a number of grass fires at Woodford Golf Course as a result of consistent high temperatures over the last week.

A spokesman for Woodford Fire Station confirmed the London Fire Brigade had joined firefighters from Essex Fire Service at the Sunset Avenue course a number of times this week, with another call out this afternoon (Monday, July 2).

He told the Recorder: “We have had repeated callouts to the golf course – three or four over the last week.

“In these conditions, grass fires can start much more easily, and if you don’t stop them when they’re minor there is a very high chance they can quickly turn into something major.”

Anyone who witnesses a grass fire should contact 999 as soon as possible.
