A man was cut free from his car by fire crews following a collision between two vehicles on Cherry Tree Lane, Rainham, at 3.34pm.
The roof of a 4x4 car had to be cut off by crews from Wennington Fire Station to free the male driver.
Before firefighters arrived, the man had freed himself but subsequently returned to the car. The fire brigade followed procedure and removed the roof so they were able to use a stretcher in case he had a spinal injury.
The London Ambulance Service attended the scene and took both drivers to Queen’s Hospital for observation as the male complained of back and neck pain whilst the lady had considerable pain in her sternum believed to be due to seat belt arrest.
The collision occurred at the junction with New Road as one car took a right turn whilst one was driving straight ahead.
