The fate of The Joker pub could be decided tomorrow at a licensing hearing after a cannabis farm was found in the cellar.
Redbridge Council’s sub-licensing committee will hear representations from the police, The Joker licence holders and other parties to make a decision.
Councillors have the power to revoke the Seven Kings pub’s licence completely, suspend it, change conditions or stop some activities.
But the public could be shut out from the hearing until the decision if councillors approve a proposal to make it private under the Local Government Act.
Police asked the council to suspend The Joker’s licence after a raid on October 2.
They found 250 cannabis plants hidden in a secret underground room fitted with a sophisticated light and irrigation system.
The pub, in Cameron Road, was already facing demolition for a 19-apartment housing development with two retail units.
A 58-year-old man has been arrested and bailed until December 16, inquiries continue.
The outcome of the review will not take effect for at least 21 days after the hearing to allow for appeals.
