Farmer gets go-ahead for Hainault campsite set to welcome 6,000 Olympic fans

A farmer has been granted permission to set up an Olympic campsite in Hainault after a battle with Redbridge Council that had seen his initial plans rejected.
David Fowler will use Forest Farm, off Forest Road, to house an estimated 6,000 spectators and host live music, dancing and indoor events from July 24 to September 9.
The decision was made by the licensing sub-committee on Tuesday at Redbridge Town Hall following “good discussions”, according to Mr Fowler.
He said: “Hopefully we can make this into a successful business.
“It’s always nice when a decision goes your way, but it’s just one more step. It’s not finished yet by any means.”
Adjustments were made to Mr Fowler’s submission. He wanted drink and food to be served until 1am as many people will not return to the camp until after midnight.
But council officials have stated the serving of food is prohibited beyond 11.30pm, with the sale of drink to be stopped at 10.30pm.
Mr Fowler estimates the site will bring in £2million for Redbridge businesses.
