An “exceptional” teacher from Ilford has won a national award in his chosen field of design and technology.

Kiran Ramlagan, who teaches design and technology at Redbridge Primary School, School Lodge, College Gardens, Ilford, received the Subject Leadership Design and Technology Award for his support of students.

He was presented with the award at the Institution of Engineering by Professor Mark Miodownik, a materials scientist and BBC presenter.

Mr Ramlagan said: “It was an honour to receive this award and share this with other peers who are focused on improving design education.

“I hope that design and technology in primary schools continues to develop children’s skills so that they can become competent designers of the future.”
