Moses Odubajo scored a crucial late winner for promotion-chasing Leyton Orient - and manager Russell Slade is adamant every point is going to be worth fighting for from now until the end of the season.

The O’s beat Colchester United 2-1 on a tense afternoon at Brisbane Road.

They were not at their best but two moments of quality from David Mooney and Odubajo were enough to clinch the points.

Slade said: “It was a tough game. Credit to Colchester, they massively played their part. They’re a good team and will finish midtable or above.

“I just wanted to get the job done, sit with the staff, have a drink and relax.

“But I’m realistic to know it’s not going to be like that. We’ve got 12 gamers to and every one is going to be a battle.

“We’ve gone to 70, we just have to get as many as we can. Every single point is worth fighting for, that’s the message. We can’t waste any.”

Despite the win Orient dropped to second in League One as Wolves went top on goal difference, beating Port Vale 3-0.

The O’s now face two away trips - against Notts County, who lost 6-0 to Rotherham yesterday, and Port Vale - after three successive home victories.

Slade is confident they can take that form on the road.

A point at Meadow Lane will see Orient equal last season’s points tally.

He said: “We’ve got to take that attitude of being ruthless with us.

“It’s three straight wins and we’ve got to be proud of that but every game presents a different challenge.

“We won’t know how important that result was until we’ve played 46 games.”

Slade give an update on the fitness of Mathieu Baudry and top scorer Mooney.

Baudry missed the game with a hamstring strain, and the manager said: “He had a fitness test and it was deemed he wasn’t quite ready to play.

“But we’re hopeful he’ll be available for Notts County on Saturday.”

Mooney was withdrawn with 20 minutes remaining, and Slade added: “David got a little knock in the ribs.

“He’s struggling a little bit, it looks a little bit sore so we’ll just have to see. He’ll probably have to have a scan.”
