More than 100 children and adults dressed up as pumpkins took part in a family fundraising walk for Haven House Children’s Hospice on Sunday.

The second annual Pumpkin Plod started from the hospice’s grounds in Woodford Green at 3pm and took the plodders, who chose a route of two, five or 10 kilometres through Epping Forest and took the most adventurous all the way to Holly House Hospital in Buckhurst Hill, which sponsored the event.

Mike Palfreman, chief executive of Haven House, which provides palliative care for children, said: “It was great to see so many pumpkins plodding through Epping Forest and raising much needed funds for local life-limited children and their families.”

The event included a tombola, face and nail painting, hot burgers and Indian cuisine and Britain’s Got Talent east London dance group IMD Legion which performed their best dance moves to cheer the walkers.

All participants received a medal and a free pumpkin at the end.
