Ilford postcodes are the fourth unhappiest places to live in the UK, according to a survey.
The miserable rating is slightly better than last year’s, when IG postcodes ranked the second worst in the country, below only east London.
Rightmove’s annual Happiness at Home Index questioned nearly 40,000 people on how they feel about their houses, communities and where they live.
Not all of Redbridge is in the IG area, which also includes Barking and parts of Essex.
London as a whole fared badly, filling nearly all of the bottom 10.
The worst factors in Ilford were house decoration, pride in the local area, amenities, recreation and safety - all with some of the poorest scores in the country.
But space, wellbeing and low costs boosted ratings, while views on contentment, investment and neighbourliness were middling.
Only central east London, Croydon and east London postcodes – which include Wanstead and South Woodford - were below Ilford and Harrogate, in Yorkshire, took the top spot.
Rightmove director Miles Shipside said: “Among the reasons why London was marked down by its residents are topics that may be considered as sacrifices when living in a major city, such as the amount of space to live comfortably and overall safety.”
