With dark brooding clouds and gothic architecture this photo could easily be mistaken for a scene from a John Constable painting, yet the picture in question was actually taken in Woodford Bridge on a stormy evening.

The swirling battle of the clouds, captured by Mark O’Dell, depicts nature at its rawest and with a church centre stage poses questions of a theological nature.

Mark said: “Last night at approximately 6pm I was standing at the junction of Manor Road and Chigwell Road when I looked up and saw a very impressive storm approaching.

“(There was a) black sky, with really low white clouds sweeping down and behind St Paul’s Church.”

The storm was short-lived and Mark said he saw it move quickly towards the Ilford area.
