National Grid is investigating a damaged cable, which could cause eight weeks of roadworks in a residential street.

Residents will have noticed half of Horn Road, in Woodford Green, has been dug up, causing bad congestion for drivers.

The energy network is inspecting whether street works by a third party could have caused the electrical cable to get damaged.

A spokesman said: “The cable was not in service at the time so no electricity was flowing through it.

“Given the investigation we can’t speculate what the consequences might or might not have been.”

He added: “We expect the work to last six to eight weeks.”
