The founder of a local children’s charity declared its latest fundraising event “the best we’ve ever had”.
Generous donors gave more than £5,000 to Hopes and Dreams, a Redbridge-based charity who grant wishes to terminally-ill children.
Ilford North MP Wes Streeting was the quizmaster at the charity’s dinner and raffle at the Hallmark Prince Regent Hotel, Manor Road, Woodford Bridge on Sunday.
Founder Ruth Salahi said: “It was the best one we have ever had. I’m so thankful to everyone who came.”
The father of one of the children, who the charity granted a dream to, gave a speech.
Scott Lau, 40, of Woodford Green, father of six-year-old Kaleigh, who suffers from a rare incurable brain tumour, explained how Hopes and Dreams funded their family holiday.
“The holiday allowed us to spend some quality family time together, Kaleigh’s cousins came over from Hong Kong,” he said.
“It was just what Kaleigh liked, all the family together.”
Scott is running a petition to get more research into DIPG, the brain tumour which Kaleigh suffers.
