Meet and electronically greet the Liberal Democrat candidate for Ilford North.
Richard Clare told the Recorder there are four main things he would like to address in the constituency.
As well as standing up to the Conservatives who “steam rolled hard Brexit” he wants to fight for NHS resources and stand up for Redbridge schools who are seeing “budgets fall in real terms”
If elected, he also wants to make sure that mental health issues are taken seriously.
“I have lived in the area my whole life - this is where I grew up,” he said.
“I know the people here, I know the issues that matter and I want to take those to the streets.”
Mr Clare believes the general election in May could be one of the most important votes of our lifetime.
While he accepts that the UK voted to leave the EU he said people did not get a say on leaving the single market, the European Court of Justice, the Customs Union, and on freedom of movement.
“Both Labour and Conservatives have singed up to hard right hard Brexit agenda,” he added.
“(Which includes) tearing us out of every institution and giving politicians the final say and not us - I want to stand up to that.”
Mr Clare told the Recorder that people in Ilford North are facing tough problems including seeing rent spiralling out of control and “much faster” than the average wage.
“A few years ago we became generation rent because we could not afford to own our own home and now we are becoming at best generation ‘living with our parents’ and that is not good enough,” he commented.
