Seeing the front wall outside your house completely smashed would fill most people with anger.

But when Carmena Green returned to her Hainault home on Wednesday she could only smile, even though an elderly driver had reversed almost 135 feet into her wall of her Foremark Close home.

“This little lady was saying ‘I am so sorry’,” she said. “I could not be upset because of how old she was.”

The unnamed driver was driven away by police after she reversed her car from Hainault Health Centre down into number 10.

“She knocked down the whole front and the gate,” added Mrs Green. “My neighbour told me that she was parked by Hainault Health Centre and reversed back in front of my house, mounted the curb and kept going backwards.”

Mrs Green, an employment coach, admits now the dust has settled, she feels “a bit more aggrieved” about the state of her home.
