There are Pride flags everywhere you look, gay rights posters have filled the corridors and nearly every student has a rainbow drawn on their cheek.

As part of School Diversity Week, Woodbridge High School has been busy celebrating LGBTQ+ equality.

Organised by the charity Just Like Us, which promotes diversity in education, the week has seen schools across the country unite in showing their support for LGBTQ pupils.

At the school in St Barnabas Road, Woodford Green, students and teachers have enjoyed making their voices heard.

On Thursday, students held a widely attended Pride festival at lunchtime, before eight pupils took to the stage to debate proposals for the school uniform to become gender-neutral.

At the festival, which included colourful rainbow treats and elaborate henna art, headteacher Andrew Beaumont said he was delighted by the students enthusiasm.

He said: “We love celebrating our diversity.

“This is the second time we’ve run a Pride celebration and it’s absolutely fantastic.”

Founder of Just Like Us, Tim Ramsey attended the celebrations, along with Andrew Stockley, the chair of trustees for the charity.

Mr Stockley said he was overjoyed to see pupils of all ages get stuck in to the celebrations.

He said: “The atmosphere here is absolutely brilliant.

“In my day, I can’t imagine ever having anything like this so it’s fantastic to see how far we have come.”

Education Secretary Justine Greening, minister for women and equalities, also attended the debate for a short amount of time.
