A crackdown on litter and fly tipping - particularly mattresses - will be enforced by Redbridge Council’s new cabinet member for safety and enforcement.
Cllr Ross Hatfull told a meeting of the council that he would unleash a team of uniformed enforcement officers to clean up the borough’s streets.
The council offers will have police accreditation giving them increased powers to tackle environmental offences.
The Cllr also announced plans to make spitting in public areas illegal, through a new by-law.
