A student from Seven Kings High School has been inspired to join the world of government after shadowing the head of the civil service.

Eva Mannan, 17, met Sir Jeremy Heywood as part of the Children’s Commissioners Takeover Day, which gives young people the chance to work with adults and share their opinions on the issues of the day.

Miss Mannan, who blogged about her experience at Downing Street, said: “The day gave me a greater insight into the work of the civil service and made me realise I wanted to pursue a career in government.”

Along with being part of the Children’s Commissioner’s Takeover Day, the civil service hopes to entice more young people into government by running a Civil Service Fast Track Apprenticeship Scheme.

The scheme offers people aged 18 to 21 an opportunity to join a 2 year training programme.
