A Redbridge school will be able to meet "every students' educational needs on one campus" after it was given permission to build a new pioneering centre for entrepreneurs.
Beal 14-19 Business Innovation Hub, which has now been approved by the Department of Education, will be a separate school built on the current Beal High School campus, Woodford Bridge Road, for 100 full and part-time students.
The free school, set to open in September next year, will offer routes into jobs in the legal, accounting and business sectors.
Sue Snowdon, executive headteacher, said: “We will create a coherent approach that aligns education, training, skills and employment services on our campus to raise standards for all.
“We believe every young person deserves to have the best education possible.”
The aim is to provide alternative provision alongside traditional qualifications, with each student getting support from a personal education adviser.
She added: “Our vision is not about rescuing the fallen but inspire those who are faltering at mainstream education milestones by offering individual pathways to achieve success.”
The Hub, which will be opened to coincide with the school’s expansion from an eight form entry to a 12 form entry, will cater for 30 full time learners in Key Stage 4 and 70, post-16.
Kathryn Burns, school improvement associate, said: “Beal will be able to meet every students educational needs on one campus.
“We were absolutely elated when the plans got agreed and we’ve already been contacted by parents expressing an interest.”
It is hoped the school will assist those who have “mental health issues, complex backgrounds, SEN [special educational needs], or have talents and abilities not served by a mainstream curriculum.”
The pioneering centre has already been trialled through the school’s existing work with external agencies including the University of East London and Connexions.
The school day would be from 10.30am-5.30pm Monday to Thursday with enrichment until 7.30pm.
